The steel industry is a fundamental sector that uses iron ore and scrap steel as primary raw materials to manufacture a wide range of steel products through processes such as ironmaking, steelmaking, and rolling. It is also a critical upstream link for manufacturing and infrastructure development. Steel products span multiple forms—including plate, section, pipe/tube, and long products such as wire rod—and are widely used in construction, automotive and equipment manufacturing, home appliances, shipbuilding, energy, and rail transit. The industry not only plays an essential role in ensuring stable supply and price stability, but also directly affects costs and delivery efficiency across downstream supply chains.

In recent years, the sector has continued to upgrade toward higher-end products with greater strength and toughness, improved corrosion resistance, and lighter weight. At the same time, it has accelerated its green, low-carbon transition by improving energy efficiency, optimizing processes, promoting short-process electric-arc-furnace (EAF) production, and strengthening recycling and circular utilization to reduce carbon emissions. Amid a rapidly evolving global trade environment and changing compliance requirements, the industry is also enhancing quality management systems, certification capabilities, and supply-chain resilience to better meet diverse, multi-standard steel demand in both domestic and international markets.
